Feeling that occasional nip when you step outside? Especially in the mornings and in the early evenings? And the days – they are definitely getting shorter, aren’t they?
Yes, autumn is certainly ‘in the air’ and it’s time to start the seasonal rituals. Time to switch clothes in the closets and do some heavy cleaning around the house, including the dreaded window washing.
Pure drudgery, that window washing! Ever wonder how windows can get so smudged and dirty even through the heavy rains of summer? We’d think one or two torrential downpours would wash them clean. But, no. Grime, dust, streaks – and even an occasional spider web or two – manage to hang on, obscuring the clarity and transparency of the glass.
Well…guess what? Our skin and those windows have something in common. In spite of habitual daily washing – even with the purest of cleaners or water – the environment can wreak havoc on our skin. Dust, weather, sand, surf, chlorine, dried perspiration, dead cells and those pesky free radicals are the demons. They can cling to our epidermis like soot to a window pane, clogging our pores and depriving our skin of clarity and glow.
Especially our face – which differentiates our unique self from anyone else. It is the one part of us that is almost never covered and protected from any elements. And like a window, it needs particular attention on a regular basis. This special attention includes exfoliation.
Some may be a bit timid regarding exfoliation. If you are one of those who is, do reconsider. As I mentioned in a Facebook post last month, exfoliation is one of the most effective ways to reverse environmental damage to the skin, unclog pores, and stimulate new collagen growth that will revatalize skin.
Here at Changes Spa & Aesthetics, for example, Our Trilogy Facial utilizes peels and microdermabrasion to achieve these results. Our Brilliance facial uses diamond tip microdermabrasion, while our Resurgence facial utilizes a Vitamin C peel.
The results of this special facial skin care? Bringing back clarity to your skin as well as the radiance and luminosity Mother Nature meant for your face to have.
There are many other healthy benefits – as well as beauty benefits – to regular exfoliation; and not just for your face. In fact, exfoliation needs to be part of a regular skincare routine for your entire body. After all, our skin is the largest living, breathing organ we have. It deserves special attention as much as do our heart or lungs.
In our next blog, we will discuss exfoliation methods, treatments and products for all of our skin to keep it healthy and revitalized.
