Keep Nourishing Those “Resting” Wrinkles!

Botox May Erase Those Furrows, but the Area Still Needs Treatment

So … you’ve decided to take the plunge: the Botox plunge.

Maybe you want a “refreshed look” for a special occasion like a high school reunion or a wedding, or for the upcoming holiday season, or maybe … just because

Like countless others, you want to get rid of those stubborn frown lines and crows feet that can considerably age faces. From all you’ve seen and heard on television commercials, read in magazine advertisements and researched on your own, the promise of a more youthful appearance is quite tantalizing.

Botox: Good-bye aging frown lines. Good-bye crows feet. Hello, rejuvenated face!

Well, good-bye and hello for three-to-six months … at best.

The Difference Between Wrinkles

Now just because you can’t see those pesky wrinkles, it doesn’t mean they aren’t lurking beneath the skin waiting for the Botox treatment to wear off.

Botox is a muscle relaxer that only works on ‘dynamic wrinkles’ – those that have movement; which is why the formula is successful in working on the expression furrows on foreheads and around the eyes. It paralyzes the expression muscles, preventing movement and … well, expression.

It does not, however, work on ‘static’ lines – like those on cheeks, necks and décolletage – that occur through the natural course of aging.

While caring for the rest of your skin with a healthy regimen of facial care, do not stop caring for the skin area where forehead wrinkles and crows feet are hiding.

Those now-invisible dynamic furrows are only muscles at rest, thanks to the effects of Botox. Consider those deep lines as being on “vacation,” quips skin clinician and expert, Erin Lucie.

And just as you would not dream of neglecting any vital skin regimens while on vacation, don’t ignore those resting, vacationing, now-invisible dynamic wrinkles either.

Keep Treating Those Resting Wrinkles!

Botox does not get to the root cause of wrinkles, one of the most important being loss of collagen. While those wrinkles are on hiatus, Lucie suggests it’s an ideal time “for some serious rejuvenation.”

She adds, “unless the skin is fortified with treatments and product that enhance collagen production,” the cycle of using Botox might just be never-ending.

For clients who choose to take advantage of the facial enhancement provided by Botox injections and enjoy the benefits, we strongly recommend they continue to treat those dynamic wrinkle areas while maintaining a healthy skin regimen, which includes regular facials.

It’s no time to slack off on skin care. While those furrows are at rest, skin will benefit from collagen fortifying products and treatments.

Here at Changes Spa & Aesthetics, we incorporate vitamin C, retinol, peptides, growth factors and antioxidants into skin care to help keep it supple and bright, as well as help keep visible signs of aging at bay.

And to treat facial areas that are still vulnerable, even while they’re on vacation … or just resting for a spell!
